We get requests this time of year about sledding and tubing options Near Lake Tahoe. So here is a list of both Paid and Free sledding options known around the Tahoe Basin. Obviously the best place to sled for some is the nearest patch of snow with a slope, so please if you have a favorite to add to this list, share it with us.

If you are seeking a more natural or adventurous sledding option here are four spots to consider on the East and South side of Tahoe:
Hope Valley – On the south side of Hope Valley just down the road from the rest area towards blue lakes, there is a hill side that is very popular for sledding. Road side parking is the biggest draw back, but this hill usually provides great snow depth, multiple man made runs and options.
Red Lake – The Backside of Red Lake on HWY 88 is a road that is used to hike int he summer up Carson Pass. In the winter is it is a great place to sled with the kids especially if your looking for easier walk back up the hill. The crazy’s here will sled towards the lake for a faster ride, but not recommend in my opinion.
Spooner Summit – A very popular free for all can be found at Spooner Summit. This sled hill as soon as a the snow falls down to that level will be packed with families looking for the best ride of the season.
Tahoe Rim trail- Kingsbury North Trail Head – Off Kingsbury Grade between Minden and South Tahoe. During the winter we often take youth groups up here because not only provides a easy walking area but if your really looking for fast ride you can go across the the canyons steeper banks and build a heck of a ride.
