March Storms Awaken Ski and Snow Recreation Industries for Spring
Sierra Rec Magazine, March 8, 2017 – As we prepared to spring ahead our clocks this weekend in the Sierra, most of us are still sitting in a stunned exuberance of the past weeks’ blizzard that restored hope in the 2017/2018 winter season. Reports of 5-8 feet of fresh snow have fallen in the High Sierra. Ski resorts received multiple feet of skiable snow that could help them stay open into April for spring skiing, plus more storms may be lining up bringing about wild hopes of the past miracle March snow storms which at one time brought over 20 feet in the Month of March alone.
At various Ski resorts this weekend major winter events will be able to welcome their competitors and recreational skiers with complete sets of runs and piles of fresh snow to track. Groomers have been busy opening more of the mountains and managing the snow for long-haul spring skiing. Cross Country Skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoe recreation, as well as sledding all return to the Sierra at full capacity high in the Sierra bringing a much-needed business boost to surrounding communities as visitors head to the mountains and locals go back to work.
Are you heading to the Mountains this weekend? Here is a short list of events and recreational activities you might find while playing in the Sierra.
