Recreation overload happening in the Sierra Labor Day Weekend.
Sierra Mountains – Labor Day Weekend, for some it is a time to relax and settle into the new fall season, high school football games, church schedules, last minute schools supplies shopping etc… But for others it is a huge three day weekend of recreation and adventure. In the Sierra, this holiday weekend is a full throttle adventure that gives us so many choices, that the only challenge is deciding what to do.
A Quick overview of what is happening at surface level on this Labor Day weekend int he Sierra.
Lassen Volcanic National Park
Snow in Lassen? – Yeah you heard me right, yesterday our friends at UnofficialAlpine.com broke the news that acold front is heading in and Lassen Peek may indeed see a little snow. Crazy to think, but fall is definetly here in the Sierra. So if your heading North to Lassen National Park or Burney Falls region, expect cold evenings, but at the park that have a full schedule of ranger lead events this weekend to keep you entertained, if the Boiling Mud and incredible Volcanic scenery are not enough. Oh yeah and its Free Fishing in California this Saturday. Report from Burney Falls last week says that water is still flowing pretty awesome up there, worth the trip.
Graeagle / Gold Lakes Region
A popular Camping and Golf destination in the Northern Sierra, The Graeagle Area has its Annual Antiques and Collectibles festival this weekend, plus live entertainment out at Greenhorn Ranch is Dave Stamey.
Annual Antiques & Collectibles Faire happens September 4th, Friday Noon to 6 pm.; September 5th, Sat. 10 am to 5 pm.; September. 6th, Sunday 10 am to 4 pm at the Graeagle Firehall.
Of course Saturday Expect lots of fishing out this direction in the mountain lakes and Streams. Gold Lakes Highway offers several mountain lakes for fishing, and a short trip over to the Yuba River is always a great idea.
Lake Tahoe
Fireworks, Fishing, Beach Play, Mountain Biking, Hiking, Concerts, Camping… Is there anything that is not happening at Lake Tahoe this weekend?
One final swim in the Lake before you wax up the Snowboards and head to the mountains?

Of Course the Fireworks Show can be seen from so many great places on the Lake. Sunday september 6th at 8:30 grab your Beach Seat and watch a classic end of Summer Fireworks Show.
The Tahoe Area Mountain Bike Association is putting their annual Roads to Toads Bike run on this weekend.
5th Annual Rose to Toads Showcase – Sunday, September 6, 2015. 6:00 am to Dark
Over 60 miles in length with 8,000 feet of climbing and 10,000 feet of descent, this is the most amazing mountain bike ride. It takes most people all day to complete while showcasing some of the best trails linking Tahoe’s North Shore from Mount Rose down to Lake Tahoe’s South Shore ending on the famous Mr. Toads Wild Ride. This is a member’s only ride only open to 75 people so sign up now! It’s our signature event, it’s not a race but the ride can be as intense as you want it to be, join us and be part of something awesome!
Heavenly will host several events this weekend.
Sunday, September 6. The Heavenly Mountain Run takes runners from the California Base Lodge at 6,565-feet, 5.8 miles up Maggie’s to Hellwinkles and along the California Trail to the top of one of Lake Tahoe’s largest four-seasons resorts. The run finishes at the Tamarack Lodge at an awe-inspiring 9,150-feet. Runners can enjoy a scenic ride down the Heavenly Gondola back to the base or descend on their own.

Squaw Valley will hold their Annual Foam Fest on saturday and their Annual Wine Festival on Sunday. –
The 27th Annual Foam Fest – one of the most anticipated beer and music festivals of the year! Proceeds from the event will support Disabled Sports to continue to provide sports rehabilitation and therapeutic recreation programs to anyone with any disability. Come support a tremendous cause while having a great time!
The Alpen Wine Fest – The 27th Annual Alpen Wine Fest includes wine tasting, live music, a silent auction and raffle. Entry into the event is a donation to Can Do MS, a foundation providing wellness and education for people with Multiple Sclerosis. With the donation, attendees receive a crystal souvenir wine glass and tastings from over 40 vineyards.
Northstar will Feature Summer Star Tours in the Evenings, several food events their Pumps on Pedals ladies evening bike rides and a classic Downhill Mountain Bike Race: Downhill Mountain Bike enthusiasts are offered the perfect conditions for downhill racing on Northstar California’s terrain and can compete against one another all summer long during the Downhill Mountain Bike Race Series featuring 20 divisions for men, women and juniors to compete in.
Alpine County – Camping, Fishing, Cycling, Hiking and Chilli Cook Offs over Labor Day weekend. Alpine County is one of the jewels in the sierra for those who just like to Live in their Recreation Comfort Zone. The Fishing on saturday will be robust, the Hiking is always great and this weekend Kirkwood is holding their annual Chili Cook Off event. The 14th Annual Chili Cook off is Scheduled for Saturday at Noon: top chili makers offering chili tasting beginning at 12:30 pm on the Plaza. Sponsored by the Kirkwood Community Association, the event benefits the Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department and includes wine, beer and chili tasting for adults, live music, a craft area, plus live and fun activities in the Kid’s Zone. Prizes will be awarded for Best Chili, Crowd Favorite and Best Booth. Tasting tickets for adults over 21 include a chili tasting kit and a commemorative glass
