Mineral, CA –Lassen Volcanic National Park joins parks, programs and partners across the country to encourage everyone to find their park and share their stories online at FindYourPark.com. Launched yesterday by the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation, Find Your Park is a public awareness and education campaign celebrating the milestone centennial anniversary of the National Park Service in 2016 and setting the stage for its second century of service.
Find Your Park invites the public to see that a national park can be more than a place — it can be a feeling, a state of mind, or a sense of American pride. Beyond vast landscapes, the campaign highlights historical, urban, and cultural parks, as well as the National Park Service programs that protect, preserve and share nature, culture, and history in communities nationwide.
“Find Your Park” is also the theme for this year’s National Park Week, April 18 –26.There will be free entrance to all national park areas during the opening weekend of National Park Week on April 18 &19.Lassen Volcanic National Park rangers will help celebrate National Park Week and share about the park at Redding’s Turtle Bay Exploratorium’ s Earth Day Celebration on April 22, the Red Bluff Children’s Fair and Redding’s Watershed Festival on April 25.
As spring comes early this year to Lassen Volcanic National Park visitors can walk or bike along the park highway to areas with snow beyond the closed gates. The park’s road crew began clearing the park highway from the southwest entrance on March 31 and will open the highway for vehicles to Sulphur Works on Saturday, April 4. Even though snow depths are low or non-existent on sections of the highway, there have been numerous wind-blown trees and fallen rocks that need to be cleared during the next few weeks.Lassen Volcanic National Park plans to hold the annual Vehicle Free Day just prior to opening the highway to vehicles which will be announced when we determine the date road clearing operations can be completed.
The Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information on current weather conditions or general information, please contact the park at 530-595-4480 or e-mail us.
