20 Lakes Basin

Location: Located Behind saddlebag Lake off Tioga Pass – elevation 10,ooo plus feet

Route:  8 Miles Plus Moderate Rocky trail

Activities: Hiking, Backpacking, Fishing, Photography, Backcountry skiing

How To Get to 20 Lakes Basin:  Travel up HWY 120  (Tioga Pass out of Lee Vining) about 10 miles, take Saddlebag Lake Recreational turn off North. (Road partly paved, part dirt., Most vehicles can make it back to lake)

Park at Saddlebag Lake Recreational Parking. Toilets available, Bear Box Available.

West Rout Cross Dam for the trailhead,  Eastern Route follow Road.  1.5 Miles around Saddlebag Lake to the 20 Lakes Basin.

20 Lakes Basin features Greenstone Lake, Cascade Lake, Steelhead Lake, Shamrock Lake, Helen Lake and many other smaller lakes in a loop trail.

Most people take the route on East Side of Lake back to Helen Lake then counter-clockwise around lakes.   We prefer the West Route, this route may require more navigational experience, but is much more scenic and rewarding early.
