Located on the west side of Lassen Volcanic National Park off HWY 17 in the Digger creek area.
A non-motorized National Recreation Trail ideal for hiking and equestrian use, the Heart Lake trail is 4.7 miles along Martin creek with scenic views of Lassen Peak and Brokeoff Mountain.
A Review of the trail be Lassen Hiking Association: Up through a dark forest the hiker walks, arriving Heart Lake after passing through Heart Gap and crossing Digger Creek.
This makes an easy day hike, or one can camp overnight at the good campsites next to the lake. And watch the sunrise the next morning.
This corner of Lassen National Forest is off the beaten track, and will likely not be crowded. Dogs are welcome here, and yours may enjoy fetching sticks thrown into the lake.
