Sierra Rec Magazine recently checked out the Mud Lake region for snowshoeing, found the area has fantastic views of Silver Lake region, Great open forest for snowshoe through as well as possibly ski. Snowmobile tracks everywhere up here as you can go all the way back to Kirkwood resort from here or over to Bear Lake area.

Roadside parking limits the number of people at any given time so solitude, easy to find.  Terrain is mountainous, plenty of various in elevation and terrain features.
