Lassen Volcanic National Park, July 26 2016 – The Centennial celebration of our National Park system has brought many new visitors to our parks in the Sierra this summer. Lassen Volcanic National Park this year has welcomed guests with a great summer landscape that includes remnants of the snow pack left behind from the winter storms, active wildlife, and abundant water flows in the creeks and streams. Yet as we approach August Lassen Volcanic National Park will, in our opinion be the month to make sure you visit and enjoy this fantastic National Park to the North of the Sierra.
The Dark Sky Festival August 12-14th is one of the iconic weekends in our Sierra National Parks. But this being a Centennial year celebration the park has may great events planned in August this year for families and visitors to enjoy and experience life in the park.
Starting this weekend with a rededication of the Lassen Peak Trailhead, Lassen Volcanic National Park welcomes you to come experience the park again for the first time.

Artist-In-Residence Presentations July 30 & August 7 | 1 pm | Loomis Museum Join centennial Artist-in-Residence Melinda Whipplesmith Plank for hands-on demonstrations of her woodblock printmaking technique during her residency at Manzanita Lake.
Reach the Peak Official Trail Dedication (Centennial event)
July 30 | 10 am | Lassen Peak Trailhead
Join us for an official dedication of the rehabilitated Lassen Peak Trail featuring a special presentation with refreshments followed by a ranger talk on the summit.
August 6 | 10 am | Volcano Adventure Camp Commemorate the new Volcano Adventure Camp with a tour of the facility developed to introduce young people to camping and adventures in Lassen Volcanic National Park.
Day in the Park Festival (Centennial event)
August 6 | 11 am – 2 pm | Manzanita Lake area Celebrate Lassen Volcanic’s 100th birthday at this fun festival featuring family activities, displays, music, ranger-led programs, and a fundraisier barbecue and raffle. Meal tickets are $15 and include a raffle ticket.
August 12 -14 | Park-wide Join us for this annual event as visitors, park rangers, astronomers, and planetary geologists celebrate all that is out of this world. Special programs, presentations, hikes, and Junior Ranger Night Explorer activities will be offered during the festival. Check back in early July for the 2016 festival schedule.
Naturalization Ceremony (Centennial event) August 9 | Manzanita Lake Amphitheater One hundred new US citizens will take their oath to this country exactly one hundred years from the day Lassen Volcanic National Park was established.
